Why You Should Take Your Child to The Chiropractor

Regular chiropractic visits are important, especially during the developmental years of life. One of the reasons why seeing a chiropractor is so important is because the nervous system (brain and spinal cord) controls everything. Nerves that originate at the spinal cord go to every organ, gland, tissue, muscle, and cell of the body. Because the spinal column houses an important part of the body’s nervous system, many physical problems can begin there. If the nervous system is not functioning properly due to a vertebral subluxation a multitude of different issues may arise. Vertebral subluxations occur when a vertebra has lost its normal position and/or motion in relation to neighboring vertebrae. The improper functioning of vertebra within the spinal framework generates mechanical stress. Malpositioning, c-section, birth intervention, falls, and intrauterine constraints are all traumas that many children encounter early on in their lives or before birth. These traumas all have the potential to misalign the spine and cause subluxation. It is also worth noting that most children put a lot of stress on their spines during the early years of life. According to Dr. David Smaldone kids fall an average of 1500 times before the age of 2. Kids who play sports or are very physically active usually end up twisting or falling awkwardly at some point during their childhood years.

Because of the direct physiological relationship between the spinal column and the spinal nerve routes, vertebral subluxations and other spinal abnormalities have the potential to impair proper nerve function. Improper nerve function can lead to a multitude of different problems including ear infections, trouble sleeping, constipation, and fussiness. The good news is that vertebral subluxations and other spinal abnormalities can be treated by a chiropractor.

Children often experience a significant amount of chemical and emotional stress. Stress often causes tension within the musculature of the spine, which can lead to a variety of problems if left untreated. Treating tension within the musculature of the spine is one of the many things that a chiropractor can do. Because chiropractic adjustments are pain-free and quick, parents can schedule chiropractic adjustments for very young children. Even infants can benefit from chiropractic care!

The function and integrity of the nervous system is extremely important for proper development and growth. Which is why regular chiropractic visits are a must when it comes to ensuring that your child is experiencing proper growth. Parents who take a proactive approach by booking their children regular chiropractic adjustments can prevent the need to correct spinal misalignments later in life.

It is also worth noting that when children suffer from spinal misalignments they usually do not complain about pain, which makes it difficult for parents to determine when to send their kids to the chiropractor. Postural changes, tilting of the head, and running with a limp are three telltale signs that your child needs to see a chiropractor. In most cases, children respond faster and more profoundly to chiropractic care than adults do, because they have not put their bodies through the same years of abuse as adults. The bottom line is that regular chiropractic adjustments are important for everyone, but especially so for children since their spines are still growing. Chiropractic care can fix a variety of different health problems and is both safe and effective. Several large-scale research studies have verified the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care for kids of all ages.
